All 2001 and later LS1's came with the same intake manifold that comes factory on the LS6. Many people call this manifold the "LS6 manifold", however, in reality it has come on more LS1's than LS6's.

LS1 Head Swap Finally I dug in and did a headswap on an LS1. This turned out to be VERY easy, but a lot of work. I strongly recommend you have a helper during this install, and all the recommended tools listed on the page. Anybody that can turn a wrench (and not get frustrated when something goes wrong) can do this install no problem. LS1 to LS6 PCV conversion So many LS1's have oil consumption issues and GM took a stab at fixing it on the LS6. In this article I show you how to convert your LS1 over to the newer LS6 style PCV system. This will require cutting away a small part of your engine block, however, it sounds a lot scarier than it actually is. This mod can be done for about $65 in parts. Infopic: The LS1 "magnet trick"

If you are installing a camshaft into your LS1/LS6 and you aren't removing the heads, you can either take your chances and hope the lifter retainers hold the lifter up and keep it from falling, or you can buy 16 retractable pen magnets with the pocket clip on them. You bend out the pocket clip, reach in with the magnet until it grabs hold of the lifter, then you extend the pen magnet until you have JUST enough extension to let the pocket clip hold onto the head. You need to keep it under tension, loose pen magnets won't do you much good. Click for full image
